MAY 18-28, 2021 (TBD)
10 Days, 11 Nights
A journey into the cradle of the American Deaf culture, we visit the birthplaces of Laurent
Clerc and Ferdinand Berthier in southern France. Enter the St. Jacques Deaf School, where Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet visited and brought back Laurent Clerc, France’s gift to the USA. A visit to the deaf-owned International Visual Theatre. Meet and greet French interpreters and students.
And not without a dazzling array of Parisian must-see sights: the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Versailles, to be guided by several local Deaf Parisians in sign language.
Best of all, earn your CEUs through this journey with your group leaders: John Burke & Joye McCormick.
John‘s Deaf roots are multigenerational. Loving his inherited language, John has studied linguistics extensively and has a kinship with Deaf from many countries. He enjoys hiking, traveling and embracing different cultures and cuisines.
Joye, an interpreter for over 30 years, has coordinated state and regional conferences through her resources and interpreting agency. She is RID, NAD, ASLTA certified and RID Certificate Maintenance Sponsor since 2004. Now, semi-retired, she’s thrilled to bring the gift of travel to professional interpreters.
