• What is the difference between HOT and other tour companies?

HOT is proud to consider itself different from other tour companies for three distinct reasons: all of our guides use sign language to communicate directly with the participants, we travel in small groups which allow for more intimate experiences, and we have plenty of flexibility on the tour schedule which lets us be impromptu- spending more time in places we like and less in places we aren't interested in.
  • What is included in the tour package?

Most tours include the following: accommodations in double rooms with private bathrooms and continental breakfast, all transportation expenses, all museum entrance fees, and one or two qualified full-time tour guides. In other words, everything except airfare, most lunches and dinners, and personal expenses is included. In addition we provide a $100 credit towards your next full tour with HOT. But exact conditions vary and be sure to check each specific tour for more details.
  • I am interested in a specific trip. How do I reserve my spot?

A $500 per person booking deposit is required to reserve your spot on the trip and can be paid by personal check. It is also possible to pay by credit card, with a 3% surcharge added on. Full payment is due no less than 3 months before the start of the trip.
  • I am interested, but am not able to travel on any of the dates offered. What do I do?

You can contact us with your preferred dates, and we might have availability to provide you with a customized tour that is tailor-made towards your preferences (dates, length of trip, destination). We are happy to find out more about what exactly your ideal trip would be, and help you make it a reality. Otherwise, you can sign up for our e-newsletters to be kept up to date on all of our future tours.
  • I would like to make my customized tour as economical as possible. How?

The best way to accomplish this would be to seek out friends and/or family to participate in your tour (usually up to 8 people can participate in any tour) which will lower the costs significantly. We can also help you by advertising open spots on your tour to the public. What's more we can lower the level of accommodations and remove some extras to make the cost more feasible.
  • What happens if I need to cancel / postpone my trip?

If you need to cancel or postpone your trip 3 or more months before the start, all monies paid will be refunded minus the $500 non-refundable deposit. You can also transfer the entire amount of your deposit to be used for a later trip if we are able to find replacements. Read our booking conditions for exact details.
  • Is purchasing travel protection recommended?

Hands On Travel recommends that you purchase a travel protection plan to help protect you and your travel investment against the unexpected. Travel protection plans include coverage for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Emergency Medical and Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation, Trip Delay, Baggage Delay and more. • It is my first time traveling abroad. I have no idea how to prepare for this trip!

Do not hesitate. It will be our commitment to stay in touch with you from the date you make the deposit until the date you arrive at the starting point of your tour. We will be providing all the necessary travel preparation information to make sure that you have all the bases covered before departure. We also remain at your disposal at any time for any questions that you have, and we can remain in touch via VP or e-mail.
  • I am a single traveler. How can HOT accommodate me?

We often prefer for people to have partners when signing up for our tours, as we operate small tours in which it is a priority to fill up every available spot. If it is not possible for you to find a partner, then please contact us as we may have a list of single travelers that we could pair up together if you approve. On some tours we are able to make exceptions and accommodate single travelers.
  • The tour I want is full! What do I do?

Please contact us so that we can put you on the wait list for the tour. If somebody happens to back out, we will then contact you immediately with the possibility of joining the tour. We would also keep your name on the wait list and contact you if we plan a future tour that is similar to the one you are interested in.
