Arrive in Vienna in the morning and transfer to hotel. Visit the Belvedere Palace and Gardens. A must-have famous Sachertorte for a late afternoon snack over coffee/tea. Enter the 12th Century ‘gothic’ St. Stephen’s Cathedral as well as view the city from atop the tower during sundown. Have welcome dinner. Sleep in Vienna for 3 nights.

Visit the Sisi Museum & Imperial Apartments, home to Emperor Franz Josef and his wife, Elisabeth during its Imperial years, located at the majestic and massive Schönbrunn Palace all day. End your evening at a raucous Viennese wine tavern.

Get ready for a road trip to Melk, home to its glorious 11th century abbey. Spend the afternoon meandering down the river to a beautiful old town, Krems, by boat. Shop a bit in Krems before returning to Vienna.

Depart for Salzburg, the Golden City of High Baroque. Go for a walkabout in old town with its beautiful cathedrals. See the Mirabell Gardens and St. Peter’s Monastery. Free time in the afternoon. End your evening with a view of the lighted Fortress Hohensalzburg. Sleep in Salzburg for 2 nights.

Take a road trip to view the breathtaking lake town, Königssee, near the Bavarian Alps. Have lunch before heading up to Kehlsteinhaus, better known as the Eagle’s Nest (one of Hitler’s secretive hideaways). Soak up the alpine views before returning to Salzburg.

Depart for Innsbrück, an 800-years-old city with medieval houses. Check out the quirky Swarovski Crystal Worlds and be dazzled. View the Golden Roof, the famous Bergisel Ski Jump and imposing hilltop Ambras Castle. Have a tyrolean-style dinner. Sleep in Innsbrück for 1 night.

Bid Austria farewell before driving to view scenic Appenzell District in Switzerland. Then arrive in Liechtenstein, the world’s sixth smallest country and view the Vaduz Castle, a private residence for the royal family. Take off for Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland, stroll around before having dinner in an old 16th century tower. Sleep in Chur for 1 night.

Drive to a charming old lakeside town, Lucerne. Go atop Pilatus Mountain by short, steep railway and be in awe of a panorama view of 70+ peaks. In town, cross the Chapel Bridge and see the ‘Dying Lion’ monument. Sleep in Lucerne for 1 night.

Long morning drive to Gruyères and enjoy the day in this charming town, famous for its chocolate and cheese. Arrive in Lausanne. Sleep in Lausanne for 3 nights.

Explore Geneva all day, including viewing its powerful water fountain. See the headquarters of the United Nations and Red Cross. Return to Lausanne.

A leisurely day trip to lakefront town, Montreux. Visit the fascinating Charlie Chaplin Museum and enter the gorgeous lakeside fortress, Chateau de Chillon. Return to Lausanne.

Be in awe of ‘mother nature’ while weaving through the snow-capped alps. Ride on rail briefly to Zermatt, home of the famed Matterhorn. Then, take the Gronergrat Bahn (train) to the top and enjoy a close-up view of the Matterhorn. Optional: Dare to cross the world’s longest hanging pedestrian bridge. Have fondue-style early dinner in village before returning to Täsch. Sleep in Täsch for 1 night.

Go north early to tranquil Interlaken, located in the Jungfrau region. Optional afternoon excursions with pre-booking in advance: Trümmelback waterfalls, gondola to top of Schilthorn, local railway to the valley of Kleine Schneidegg, hike on local trails, boat trip on DF: Austria & Switzerland
